About Me

My name is Dan Carlson, and I am a mechanical engineer who loves solving real world problems using robotics and automation technology. My primary educational and professional focus is on hardware, but I love to code and work on electro-mechanical control systems. I have a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Concentration in Mechatronics from Northeastern University where I completed a thesis on the design of a robotic leg for long fall maneuvers.

Currently, I am a mechanical engineer at Symbotic, a warehouse automation company, where I work on hardware in a sustaining and design capacity. Before Symbotic, I completed two coops and an internship. My first coop was at Cometeer, a consumer products startup, where I was assisting in the development and integration their first commercial production line. My second coop was working at Fulfil Solutions, a startup creating the future of automation in grocery ecommerce, where I worked with the design team. Finally, my internship was at AKF Group, an MEP firm in Boston where I worked as a commissioning engineer and performed a variety of onsite and offsite commissioning tasks.

In addition to my work experience, I have strong communication and teamwork skills from the leadership positions I have held during my education including mechanical project lead, lead CNC machinist, and team captain.

Outside of engineering, I love to listen to music and audiobooks. I follow the hip hop and hyper-pop music scenes and try to stay up to date with new releases. For books, I love to read sci-fi and am currently reading all of the classics that I didn't get a chance to read for school.
